Tile
A classic durable choice for homes, tile comes in almost endless varieties of shapes, colors and styles. While it can be cold underfoot in the winter and harder on your joints, when the grout is properly sealed tile floors are extremely easy to clean. Recently, large format tile has become increasingly popular since it reduces the amount of grout to be cleaned. For those that like the look of hardwood but not the maintenance, woodgrain pattern tile can give you the style of hardwood while being much more durable and easier to clean.
Hardwood
Hardwood floors are beautiful luxurious choice that adds a lot of value to your home and gives a good return on investment. It’s warmer underfoot than tile and is less hard on your joints, however it can be very high maintenance. It is easily prone to scratching and water damage, so it is not recommended for people with pets, and it requires special cleaning products and techniques to avoid damaging the finish. But since wood floors can be sanded down and refinished sever times over their lifetime, a single installation of wood flooring can last generations.
LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank)
Modern LVP has seen great improvements in durability and waterproofing in the past few years. It has become a very popular material, especially for families with children and pets since it is scratch and stain resistant, waterproof, budget friendly and less expensive to install than tile. It comes in many styles that replicate both hardwood, tile and high-end stone, and is also grout-free, so it’s very easy to keep clean. Like hardwood, it is warmer underfoot and softer on your joints than tile. Depending on the level of cushioning in your LVP, dishes are also much less likely to break when dropped on the floor. New click-and-snap varieties of LVP are incredibly easy to install, and since they don’t require glue, you can easily pop out and replace damaged planks as needed. Overall, it is a great choice for living spaces, kitchens, bathrooms and even your entire home.
